Arabica is coffee that comes from the beans of the Coffea Arabica plant. It is grown at high altitudes in regions with a tropical climate and is the most widely consumed type of coffee in the world.
A portafilter is a filter basket with an attached handle that holds freshly ground coffee and locks into the espresso machine. The machine then pumps water into the portafilter, forcing the water through the coffee grounds under pressure. This extracts flavor and aroma and voilà! You have your delicious shot of espresso!
Washed refers to a coffee processing method where the harvested coffee cherries are sorted, de-pulped, and then fermented in water before entering the drying phase.
There are hundreds of varieties and cultivars of arabica that go into our cups of coffee. Gesha is one variety that gets a lot of attention for its intense flavors. Bright jasmine aromatics and tropical fruit flavors are some things it’s known for.
