Haitian coffee farmers are resurrecting the nation's coffee sector, emphasizing sustainable shade-grown methods. In the eighteenth century Haiti supplied half the world's coffee from its brutal slave plantation system. The Haitian revolution which began in 1795 destroyed both French colonial rule and the coffee industry, clearing the way for Brazil to emerge as the world's leading exporter.
