Vienna Coffee Company’s Foxfire espresso blend, one of two Foothills Series coffees introduced in August, scored a 92 in the latest round of reviews from Coffee Review. It’s the second accolade to roll in for the blend, following last month’s bronze medal from Golden Bean North America.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Coffee Review, they exist “to entertain and educate coffee drinkers, food service professionals, and the coffee trade with a credible and easy-to-use coffee guide based on objective, blind reviews from [founder] Kenneth Davids and other experienced individuals in the specialty coffee industry.” Coffees are scored on a host of characteristics such as acidity, aftertaste, aroma, body, flavors, and overall taste. Things like pronounced fruity or floral notes also contribute to a coffee’s score, along with other distinctly “enjoyable” characteristics.
Vienna has already gotten great feedback on the blend from our wholesale customers. Brenna Fritz manages Uptown Coffee in Mt. Lebanon, PA, and told us she loves the Foxfire, noting how the playfulness of the Ethiopian Hambela complements the rounder flavors of the Brazil Santo Andre. A few of our wholesale customers have also had a chance to try it at cupping events we’ve hosted—and it’s largely been met with pleasant feedback.
As for the review itself, Coffee Review tasted “magnolia, chocolate fudge, hazelnut, gently scorched cedar, banana in aroma and small cup.” Their bottom line called Foxfire Espresso “a fine classic espresso blend: deeply sweet and chocolaty, with supporting notes of rich aromatic wood and magnolia-like flowers.”
