How Vienna Coffee Partners with Finca San Jeronimo for a Greener Future

Coffee is more than just a morning ritual, it's an adventure from seed to cup that reflects the values and practices of the people who cultivate it. At Vienna, we're committed to offering not only exceptional coffee but also to ensuring that our practices promote sustainability and responsibility. One of our partnerships is with Finca San Jeronimo Miramar, a coffee farm in Guatemala that has set the standard for sustainability.

About Finca San Jeronimo

Located on the slopes of Atitlan Volcano in Guatemala, Finca San Jeronimo Miramar is more than a coffee farm, it’s a century-old legacy of the Bressani family. This farm is a vibrant ecosystem, home to not only high-quality coffee but also jersey dairy cows, honey bees, and tropical fruits, all thriving under the canopy of a protected natural reserve. The farm's diverse altitude, ranging from 700 to 2,600 meters above sea level, creates the perfect setting for producing some of the finest coffee Guatemala has to offer.

Workers flip the coffee often when it’s drying to help the coffee dry faster and prevent spoilage.

sustainability at heart

What truly sets Finca San Jeronimo Miramar apart is its commitment to sustainability. The farm harnesses hydroelectric power from its own natural springs, powering the estate in its entirety. This use of renewable energy dramatically reduces the farm’s environmental footprint, and demonstrates a self-sustaining model of production.

In their effort to improve soil health, the farm avoids synthetic pesticides. Instead, they employ natural methods like beneficial fungi and bacteria to manage pests, practices that protect the farm's rich biodiversity and promote a healthier ecosystem. This approach not only maintains the natural health of the soil but also ensures that every coffee bean is grown in a way that respects and enriches the environment.

Finca San Jeronimo Miramar operates organically without the formal certification. The farm adheres to organic farming methods, avoiding chemicals, but chooses not to engage with the costly certification process. They believe that organic certification can sometimes limit the innovative practices that farmers naturally employ. For them, it's not about the label, but the integrity and sustainability of their farming practices.
