Brazil Morro Azul: April Spotlight Coffee

a journey to brazil

Spring is finally here, and with it comes a new single-origin Brazilian coffee to broaden any coffee enthusiast’s adventure: Brazil Morro Azul. This new limited time offering comes to Vienna Coffee Company from our friends at FAF Coffees (standing for Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, which translates to “Environmental Fortress Farm”). That name pretty much says it all.

FAF is a collective of family-owned coffee farms in Brazil that lead the way in sustainable coffee production. They’ve been growing coffee since 1850, and today they’re focus expands beyond farming beans. For over 20 years, they’ve ensured better practices to preserve forests, protect rivers, and ensure their coffee farming is good for the land and those who work it. It’s a vision we really admire, and we’re honored to share their work with you.

Watch this video to hear from some folks who traveled to Brazil to visit FAF’s farms, documenting their journey and interviewing coffee farmers who are part of the inspiring Bob-o-Link project that’s redefining sustainable coffee farming in Brazil.

Meet Morro Azul

flavio and maria lucia of morros azul in brazil

Maria and Flavio Lucia manage Morro Azul. focusing on sustainable efforts in their coffee production.

This delightful Brazilian coffee comes from Fazenda Morro Azul, one of the oldest farms in the region of Mococa, on the border of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Founded in 1840, Morro Azul has been in the same family for over 140 years! In 2001, the stewardship of the farm passed to Flavio and Maria Lucia, who’ve made it their life’s mission to breathe new life into this historic land.

They’ve revitalized the coffee terraces, upgraded equipment, and committed themselves fully to sustainability. Morro Azul is now part of the Agua Limpa Bobolink network, a group of farms working together to protect the Agua Limpa river basin. That means every bag of coffee you enjoy helps support a larger effort toward environmental stewardship in Brazil.

We hope you taste the real quality of our Coffee and see for yourselves our efforts to maintain the beauty of our region.

What’s in the Cup

Okay, let’s talk flavor. After several cupping sessions, we found this coffee shines as a lighter roast. The result is super smooth cup with a medium body and balanced acidity, making it an ideal all-day drinker. Tasting notes include cashew butter, pear, and honey. It’s got that comforting richness we love from Brazilian coffees.
