Each month, we eagerly embrace the occasion to spotlight one of our single origin coffees, giving it that extra sprinkle of love and attention (cue the shameless plug for our featured coffee). We love dishing out the backstory as much as serving up the taste.
Sharing a product we're genuinely excited about with our loyal customers is an opportunity we never want to sleep on. For the month of June, our focus turns to a delicious organic coffee from the birthplace of coffee itself – Ethiopia.
The Source
Vienna Coffee Company's Organic Ethiopia Yirgacheffe is sourced from the southern region of Ethiopia, named after the very area it thrives in.
There may be a good reason behind Ethiopia’s title as the coffee motherland. The Yirgacheffe region flaunts ideal coffee-growing conditions with its rich volcanic soil, mountainous terrain, and balanced annual rainfall.
Basically, it’s the perfect concoction for creating some of the finest coffee plants on the planet. More specifically, this coffee is sourced from Debeka Farm, one of the largest farms operating under the exporters of Kerchanshe Cooperative.
The Process
Picture a sprawling one-hectare greenhouse where our coffee seedlings flourish under carefully managed conditions, ensuring they are soaking up all the goodness. After harvest, the coffee cherries get treated to some serious TLC with both washed and natural processing methods.
Here at Vienna, we opt for the washed technique for this particular lot, giving the coffee that super clean and crisp finish that we just can't get enough of.
Once the coffee babies (beans) make it to our Roastery, it’s time for some real magic to happen…or science…maybe art? It’s all the above really.
Our roastmaster, Trace, takes the reins from here. After a resting period, the coffee gets the thumbs up in our tasting lab, making sure it's ready to wow our amazing customers.
